10 SXSW Events for Technology Entrepreneurs (2016)

Space Chimp is incredibly proud to be from Austin, Texas. Whether it be the diverse and innovative technology community that it harbors, the live music, the incredibly gorgeous natural scenery, or.. well.. the food, we can’t help but find excitement in sharing our incredible culture with people around the globe. Around this time every March, the city of Austin hosts SXSW where we encourage anybody and everybody to enjoy our atmosphere for SXSW and indulge in events and experiences that make Austin so brilliant.

When the word “SXSW” is thought or heard, people tend to visualize the thousands and thousands of musical performances that happen on every corner around the city. Although this event has historically revolved around the Austin music scene for decades, it’s hard to ignore the other dimensions that SXSW has to offer.

For the past handful of years, this festival has been increasingly geared towards technology and innovation. From networking events, conferences, panel discussions, showcases and keynote speeches, it is no doubt that the tech scene in Austin has wiggled itself to one of the most noteworthy categories of SXSW.

Our team at Space Chimp has compiled a list of 10 highly-anticipated events for technically and creatively-centered individuals who might be interested in gaining inspiration from industry professionals.

This event is awesome for digital and technical professionals to connect and network with employers in their field. At the job market, you’ll be able to meet with innovative thinkers and companies to network and chat about the industry – and hey, some possible job opportunities. This event is open to the public with a free SXSW Guess Pass (available at guests.sxsw.com)


SXSW Accelerator: Innovative World Technologies

Sunday, March 13 | 12:20PM – 1:30PM
Hilton Austin Downtown – Salon AB

This pitch event allows early stage technology startups to pitch their products and services to industry technology experts, high profile media personnel, and Venture Capitalists / Angel Investors. There will be a live audience, panel of three judges, and co-emcees with their ideas, innovations, and products. A grand prize winner for each category will be selected at the end of the day.


19th Annual SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards

The 19th annual SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards celebrates the most inspiring, creative innovations in the connected world. At this year’s event, attendees can expect to see the most exciting tech developments, privacy and security, 3D printing. augmented and virtual reality, and beyond. Some of the most anticipated categories include Interactive Design, Visual Media Experience and Innovative 3-DIY. Voter Technology: A Reimagined Future

In leu of the political season, this event is taking a dive into voting technology and how its’ aging results in inaccurate ballots or in voters being unable to cast a ballot at all. This panel discussion with Diego Bernal (Texas House Member) and Peter Jackson (Public Sector Strategy Lead) will discuss what’s at stake for the 2016 presidential election, as well as inspiration on paving the way for a new and updated form of voter technology.


Stewart Butterfield in Conversation with Farad Manjoo

At Space Chimp, we are HUGE fans of Slack, an instant-communication platform for businesses. Keys to Quickly and Efficiently De-Risk Your Startup

This panel discussion is certainly an interesting one for fellow entrepreneurs and small startup businesses.
